All over the world teens, girls as well as boys, compare themselves to what they see on TV, magazines, billboards, ads, ext. This presents itself on a global context on a daily basis. Many of them try to imitate what they see and even take extreme measures to fulfill this fantasy of perfection. For example, they starve themselves and become anorexic or bulimic. Also, to get the tanned skin they desire they go to tanning beds for hours. These tanning beds can affect them in the long run by causing them to suffer from skin cancer. Another example is people spending a lot of money. They buy cosmetics, fashioned clothes, and even surgeries. The media and the globalized beauty industry, work together to guide people to certain beauty standards. Although, beauty expectations change along with times, it is always a topic of controversy in all societies. What is considered beautiful depends on the time social environment in which we're in. Beauty is also linked with money, health, and culture around the globe. The wealthy have more access to the beauty products, such as the surgeries, which allows them to reach the levels of beauty accepted by society. in other words, it is easy for them to buy beauty and set examples of "beauty" for the rest of society. Health also linked to beauty because many people put their health on the line. They risk it all in order to fit in and not be seen as the outcast. The culture to which we belong also has a lot to do with beauty is. Different cultures have different standards of beauty, but at the end all cultures have standards that influence people. Beauty seems to be one of the most important things people deal with. It is a priority around the world. If wee want to change this global problem we have to raise awareness in every corner of the world. We have to make people understand that there isn't just one kind of beautiful. Just as our cultures vary, beauty varies as well.
